Come down to the library for a sneak peak!

QES students have been given a huge privilege, in that they are now able to read one of multiple copies of ‘Without a Trace’ by Robbie Morrison and Charlie Adlard. This is very exciting as this title has not been released yet. The Lakes International Comic Arts Festival has given us these copies, to be used in Year 8 and 9 lessons, and we could not be more grateful.

Bryan and Mary Talbot are visiting!

On Monday the 16th October the highly acclaimed Bryan and Mary Talbot will be coming in to school. We are extremely lucky to have these two talented individuals visit us in school due to our links with the Lakes International Comic Arts festival, and the Traces of the Great War project which we are taking part in. Some of you may know Bryan Talbot due to the Grandville steampunk detective series. He has won many industry awards, one of them being the first graphic novel to win the biography section of the Costa Book Awards in 2012. He has worked with a vast array of highly regarded professionals, including Neil Gaiman. Mary Talbot is highly regarded in many higher education circles. She is widely published in language, gender and power.  Mary has a PhD and has had posts in higher education institutions internationally for the last twenty-five years. Currently, she is working on graphic novels with Bryan, including the very highly thought of graphic novel ‘Sally Heathcote, Suffragette.’

Steve and Mike McGarry are coming!

On Friday the 13th October we have Steve and Mike McGarry coming in. This father and son duo have a huge amount of talent – with both of them having their own high profile clients. Steve has been nominated many times for a vast array of illustration awards, and went on to win the National Cartoonist Society Newspaper Illustration award in 2003. Steve has a number of specialisms, including illustration, cartoon illustration, story artistry and working on record sleeves. Steve will be joined by one of his two sons, Mike, who specialises in Illustration, animation and design. Ask Miss S or Mrs Holman for more details.
